Solar Raptor HID lamps are one of the favourite lamps for sun and UVB loving reptiles such as Pogona, Iguana, Cyclura, Uromastyx and so on. Solar Raptor's HID (High intensity discharge) lamps have a very high UVA, UVB and heat emission
The advantage of HID lamps versus mercury vapor lamps (HQL) is that they have a higher UVB and heat output at a lower wattage. This allows you to get the same values or even better ones with less energy. Mercury vapor lamps can only be obtained from 80 / 100Watt or higher and because of the integrated ballasts these are very large lamps and only suitable for big enclosures. HID lamps require an external electrical ballast to function and are therefore significantly smaller. Also, HID lamps are available from 35Watt. As a result you can also offer optimal values for your reptile in smaller terrariums where a big HQL lamp is just too big.
Solar Raptor has 2 types of HID lamps. The 'Spot' lamps and the 'Flood' lamps. Flood lamps give a (slightly) wider beam of light. Where the spotlights emit a narrower more concentrated beam of light. Also, the Flood lamps have an even higher UVB release. The light temperature (Kelvin) of these Flood lamps matches the colour of natural daylight.
Due to the high UVB emission of these lamps they are only suitable for sun-loving and basking reptiles. Please be advised of the UVB need of your terrarium animal. In case of excessive UVB release, your animal may burn. In the case of too low a range, your terrarium animal may not get the required UVB. Please observe the minimum distances shown by the developer. These distances mean the distance measured from your animal to the lamp. Let a lamp burn for a minimum of 2 hours outside the occupant's terrarium before using inside the enclosure. Replace the lamp after 4000 hours of use because after this period the UVB release is greatly reduced.
For optimal longevity of your lamp and safety, it is important that your lamp hangs straight down and therefore not diagonally. By using a 'light bracket' you are sure that the lamp hangs straight down. These lamps become very hot and plastic fittings will melt or burn. Always place these lamps in a fixture with a ceramic fitting. We have several 'domes' in the assortment, all fitted with ceramic fitting for optimum safety.
